About Mount Kenya Climb
Mt. Kenya is Africa’s second highest mountain and has always stood a little in the shadow of Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. Of course it is great to stand on Africa’s highest mountain. But Mount Kenya, on the other hand, offers a much more varied and more beautiful landscape.
The Chogoria route, which we use on this climb of Mt. Kenya is the most beautiful of the routes on the mountain. Mainly, walks through various climate zones – from agricultural areas through semi rain-forest, bamboo forest, tall bog with giant lobelia and a high-pin area. With its special flora, the hike eventually reaches the glacier zone. On this route you have 5 days / 4 nights on the mountain and 1 night before and 1 night after at Naro Moru River Lodge, which is beautifully located at the foot of Mt. Kenya.
The best time of year to climb Mt. Kenya is in the dry period in January and February. Also, in August and September. The mountain can also be climb in early October and March. Hiking trip can be extended with safari or swimming days on the Kenyan coast.
Trekking on Mount Kenya has long been in the shadow of Kilimanjaro. Too bad for it’s a fantastic trekking trip. The walk itself goes through an outstanding beautiful landscape. Just imagine that you are on your way to King Solomon’s mines. Fortunately, trekking lovers have begun to face the magnificent mountain in the middle of Equator. A beautiful and fascinating challenge for most trekkers.
Best season to go trekking Mt Kilimanjaro
You can climb Kilimanjaro year round, but the best periods are January – March and June – October, as these two periods are dry. In the rainy season, which falls in April – May and November – December, also possible climb Kilimanjaro. However, there may be a risk of larger amounts of rain. Note that the weather is unpredictable and highly interchangeable on the mountain all year long. So, keep the trekking equipment in order and always be prepared for rain and cold.
Trekking Kilimanjaro has three main mountain peaks Kibo, Shira and Mawenzi. Kibo and Mawenzi are both separated by a wide plain called The Saddle, and the highest point on Kibo is Uhuru Peak. The peak is 5,896 meters and the ultimate goal for most of the hikers on the mountain. Sunrise seen from “Africa’s roof” is a fantastic experience completely unparalleled.
We prefer trekking Kilimanjaro by following the Machame route and usually make descent via the Mweka route.
